I hope yall are doing well. Does anybody know about any hip hop education grants? - I am a student support interventionist at a public high school in New Orleans, and am getting a Youth Empowerment Library going for our kids - do yall have any great funding ideas? Thanks so much for any help.

I agree with all of you
My heart truly thinks that a progressive action like Stehapny recommended is crucial. As an educator I am aware that we have more of an impact as a mobilized action. The education needs to see us support the silenced voices (Read Asa Hilliard's Young Gifted and Black in Education, als Indigo Children)

The time is prime.
Lets talk logistics on that for sure.

The education for our children and our community definitely should start on a local level. I just transferred my son Nasir from a predominantly Caucasian school. His school never discrimated against him. In fact, he received great favor. However, I cannot expect for someone else to teach my son his rich history and culture. The school did try to embrace every culture; yet in still I can't have my son believing falsehoods (i.e. Lincoln did not free the slaves). One thing that I found that they have and we don't is PARTICIPATION: from their community, businesses (local/national),teachers, administration, and PARENTS. Our children's Educational success will definitely be a GROUP EFFORT!

We should, also, stress expanding math and science curriculums in school, especially when technical skills will be necessary to prepare for the twenty-first century job market. Since I've been studying economic/workforce development in my graduate program and working as a substitute teacher I've noticed that soo many students will experience disadvantages in the future since our schools don't prepare these students enough to make it into this type of job market.

I agree; I've always said, the most progressive thing to see would be a collective of students in a class action lawsuit against the education system on the basis of both inadequate and unequal education.

So what's your thoughts on this education piece. I'm about taking over the school district and implementing community centered content that teaches history and fundamental skills that can be applied right now. You?
